This webinar will provide an evidence-based review of the prevalence and factors associated with cannabis use during pregnancy and lactation. Short- and long-term effects of perinatal cannabis use will also be reviewed. Finally, best practices for identification and intervention with pregnant women will be discussed.

Speaker: Dr. Alice Ordean
Dr. Alice Ordean is the Medical Director of the Toronto Centre for Substance Use in Pregnancy (T-CUP) at St. Joseph’s Health Centre and Associate Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto. Dr. Ordean received her Doctor of Medicine and Certification in Family Medicine at the University of Toronto. She also completed a Masters of Health Science with a Collaborative Program in Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Psychoactive Substances from the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Toronto. Dr. Ordean received her certification in Addiction Medicine from the American Board of Addiction Medicine in 2014.
Dr. Ordean has a clinical interest in addiction medicine and pregnancy. She has been a principal investigator in research projects including national and local data collection of opioid agonist treatments during pregnancy. She has also contributed to the development of international, national and provincial guidelines on the management of problematic substance use in pregnancy, perinatal opioid use disorders and neonatal abstinence syndrome.
