Workshop - Perinatal Anxiety and Supporting Parental Mental Health - North Bay

Workshop Description:

Mental health issues are common concerns for service providers working with prenatal clients and parents of young children. This workshop will help service providers better understand perinatal anxiety and provide information to support parents with mental health issues of all kinds. Perinatal anxiety will be described in detail and participants will have the opportunity to consider how, where and when to refer parents/caregivers living with anxiety in their local community.  Strategies to support parents with mental health issues will be briefly discussed and participants will consider how to use Best Start Resource Centre strategies/resources in their own programs.

Registration Fee: $75 includes lunch, coffee break and handouts

Speakers:

Hilary Brown is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto and an Adjunct Scientist at Women’s College Hospital. She holds a PhD from the University of Western Ontario and MSc from Queen’s University. Her research examines risk factors for perinatal mental illness as well as its impact on child developmental outcomes.

Hiltrud Dawson is a health promotion consultant at Best Start Resource Centre since 2005. She has worked in the maternal and child field as a nurse, midwife and lactation consultant. Hiltrud is the lead for maternal mental health and breastfeeding at Best Start Resource Centre and has extensive experience in these areas.
