In celebration of World Breastfeeding Week, Telehealth Ontario (THO) staff will share information about the Telehealth Ontario Specialized Breastfeeding service including set up, service statistics, and triage details. There will be ample time for questions.
- Understand why and how the THO Specialized Breastfeeding Service operates.
- Learn about general service statistics including demographics, call patterns and top 10 issues addressed.
- Understand how calls are managed and how mothers access the program.
- Hear about assessments, and the outcomes of triage.
- Have the opportunity to ask questions.
Adam Jones, RN
Adam is a Registered Nurse in his twelfth year managing the Teletriage Services contract for his employer organization. This contact center file includes Telehealth Ontario, the Telephone Health Advisory Service, Colon Cancer Check screening, Health Care Connect toll-free intake and the Specialized Breastfeeding Service. Adam’s employer, Sykes Assistance Services has been delivering sophisticated contact centre services on behalf of its clients since the late 1950`s and has been the provider of Teletriage Services on behalf of the MOHLTC since Telehealth Ontario launched in 2001. Adam began working on the service by taking calls as a THO Registered Nurse in March, 2003. Since that time Adam has filled a number of management roles in the Telehealth workforce management division and clinical operations prior to assuming his current role in 2008. In addition to his Client Relations role, Adam has served as the privacy officer for SASC’s Telehealth Division since 2012. In addition Adam has been a professor of Centennial College’s Ethics & Legalities in Telenursing since 2009.
Elena Karpouzis RN, BScN
Elena has been a Registered Nurse for 20yrs. Her background has been working in oral surgery, pediatrics-PACU/ASCU at Sick Children’s Hospital. Elena has been with THO for 13years, a frontline staff for 9 years and a clinical team manager for the past 4yrs.Elena have been working as one of the lead managers for THO Specialized Breastfeeding Service program since it was launched on April 1, 2014.
Lisa Maurer RN
Lisa has been with THO for 10.5 years now and in a management role for 5 years. She is one of the two lead managers for the THO Specialized Breastfeeding Service since it started. She has a varied nursing background including; Family Health, Orthopaedics, Medical/Surgical, Thoracic and Cardiac. However, her love has always been the birthing unit. Before coming to THO she worked Postpartum and Labor & Delivery in both Windsor and Leamington hospitals where breastfeeding teaching and promotion was a huge part of her work.
Joan Rom-Colthoff, RN
Joan is a Registered Nurse and prenatal educator with a background of working in labor and birth settings and fertility for many years. She was responsible for curriculum design for prenatal programs as a hospital coordinator for 25 years. Joan has been a front line RN with THO for 5 years and is actively involved in assisting breastfeeding mothers by offering lactation coaching as part of the new Specialized Breastfeeding Service. Joan completed the INFACT Lactation Management course and is presently doing an internship at The International Breastfeeding Centre (Newman Clinic) in preparation for becoming an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.
